Omis

The city Omis lies directly with the mouth of the river Cetina. The Omis was already settled in the early time. The today's townscape is stamped still strongly by the Dalmatian-Venetian appearance. Still today the mirabelle which was built originally of the defence against the infamous pirates is towered above Omis by the castle ruins. One of the most popular destinations of the city is the Old-Croatian church Sveti Petar from the 10-th century which lies on the shore of the Cetina.
Today is Omis a popular tourist place, because here is one of few long sandy beaches of Dalmatia. These drop shallowly in the sea, so that the place is also liked with families with children. Besides, family hotels offer the suitable overnight stay possibilities. Besides offers to grandmas numerous other, rather smaller sandy beaches and pebble beaches on which one can switch off of the everyday life. The city itself lives mainly on the tourism. Hence, one finds beside the family hotels also smaller pensions as well as summer cottages.
